Technological Stupidity Rolling Downhill

Phoenix real estate

Jonathan Dalton, Phoenix Real Estate AgentEarlier today (or maybe it was yesterday) I received an e-mail flier for a lakefront property in Glendale. I have a buyer for lakefront but not in this price range so I deleted the flier. Pretty simple, eh?

This afternoon someone asked to be removed from the mailing list. Except they sent the “remove” request to everyone who had received the original e-mail, thereby spamming everyone in an effort to avoid spam.

That was followed by a second person doing the same thing.

And a third person demanding to know why this is happening and why she’s receiving this e-mails. (Hint: your e-mail is as spammy as all the rest at this stage. But at least you make up for the error with indignance.)

Then another saying she’s getting multiple e-mails, that she’s not the sender and that everyone should use the unsubscribe directions at the bottom of the e-mail.

EXCEPT NO ONE IS LOOKING AT THOSE INSTRUCTIONS! Or if they are, and I presume someone did, they’re not among the half-dozen people filling my inbox because of their own technological illiteracy.

Please, folks, do us a favor. Turn off your computers and walk away. You shouldn’t be operating machinery this heavy.

(As I’m typing this I saw another one: Same here! Please turn this off! Yeah, I’ll get right on that … make sure everyone sees it, too, since none of us can stop it.)

Morons.

  1. That’s where the beauty of gmail shines through. I don’t even see these email flyers anymore, because they automatically land in the spam folder. Terrible marketing tool (imho) for Realtors to use.

  2. So between this and your agent genius article today I should assume that someone’s in a snarky mood as a result of everyone taking moron pills this morning?

  3. Lani, I like the word snarky.

Actually, we had to teach 80% of the agents in our office not to use the reply all button when an email was sent to the group.

Intensive training is obviously required to simply practice real estate.

  4. I’ve used it before, Mark … it’s been known to work, at least for those who can master the “reply to all” button.

    Lani … what’s a snarky?

Howard … it’s amazing how easily folks are stumped by the reply all concept. As I said, back away from the computer before somebody gets hurt.

Probably U of A grads … wait did I say that aloud? Filter doesn’t work as well three days before the big game.

  5. It’s an amazing thing to behold.

    Amazingly stupid.

You’d think these dolts had never seen an email flier before.

I swear if I get one more that hits the “reply all” I’m gonna hunt someone down.

Or maybe I’ll just copy/paste this post and REPLY ALL.

  6. I hate e flyers, they are just spam. The agents who use them must think I can’t use tempo.
The email in question was sent by an IT dept that didn’t know how to do it. I called the brokerage, they apologized, said they were working on the bug.
Fact still remains, I didn’t give them permission to email flyers, hence it is spam. I also forwarded all of these emails back to the agent who sent them. Maybe if we started doing that, they would stop.
The only reason I don’t submit as spam is that some day I may have a transaction with these dolts.(thank you Jay)

  7. No, the real offender is whomever is releasing our email addresses to these morons. I’m changing my email with PAR/AAR/NAR to OnlyScumbagsSpam@BloodhoundRealty.com, a trash account. I will never see another piece of mail from those organizations, but they made the choice to betray me. F*ck ‘em.

  8. A friend of mine works for a company that felt it necessary to remove the reply all option from the Outlook email interface. Easier than teaching a couple thousand employees how to reply correctly :) .

  9. I love this country : )

  10. Hell, Dave, you’re not getting the reply alls so you don’t count. :-)

Greg … need to work on expressing yourself and letting your feelings show.

Rod … not surprised. I know I’ve run into that problem. Think it was back at my days at Schwab. Tried blocking those out.

Jay and Jim … I don’t unsubscribe also because I’ve been known to look at the flyers sometimes. I really do. But this was just ridiculous

  11. [...] soup of Realtor associations is selling my email address — or perhaps just giving it away. Realtors all over Phoenix are watching an idiot’s spam-fest, as one clueless victim after another tries to escape the [...]

  12. not only should they walk away from the computer, but they should walk to the closet and retrieve the box the computer was shipped it. Repackage the computer and ship it back, with a note that says
“I’m Too Stupid to own a computer”
