And Charlie Makes Three …

avatarthumbnail.jpgYou’re humbly invited to choose the “s” word of your choice to describe me at this moment in time.

Wait a second. Scratch that.

Let’s make this multiple choice … I’m either a sucker or a softie. In any event, I’m also now a beagle father thrice over after the addition of Charlie this afternoon.

We start with a daughter in Cactus’ Med Start program assigned to work at the Arizona Humane Society. Add in a website with many adoptable dogs and the presence of a beagle mix waiting for a new home, and you have the short story of why it is Charlie now is living in my home.

Well, that and the fact I’m a sucker. Charlie walked up, sat in my lap, licked my face and may as well have pulled the credit card out of my wallet.

So Charlie now joins the bionic Tobey, he of the two knee ligament surgeries, and the rather co-dependent Captain Morgan, who still believes he’s a puppy as proven by his penchant for jumping into people’s laps.

Being this is an election year, all things must be taken with a grain of salt. Charlie was said not to jump on furniture. So naturally the first thing he did is jump on the back seat of my van. Strike one.

Strike two seems to be a desire to bark inside the house instead of following the other two outside. Hopefully this will change as Charlie discovers the dog door.

In any event, the family’s now a little bit larger and the house is a little less quiet. I just hope Charlie doesn’t want to sleep in my bed, because with two other beagles and the wife already there, I’ll be the one to end up crated at the end of the night.

Congratulations on your new addition, Papa! How exciting it is to hear the pitter-patter of little paws clawing at the carpet, as they start to piddle — while you’re trying to sleep On the other hand, they give life a little more meaning, a little more love and a lot more laughs! Couldn’t last a day without our fury friends, could we? Congrats – Calie

I’m loving Charlie! I know you are to. It takes a big man to let three beagles lick his face all over, and over.
