Another Word on the Big Z – Zillow as a Real Estate Portal

Much to my surprise I received this in my inbox last night from an agent whose buyers are purchasing the listing I have in Ventana Lakes:

I did not see the Home Warranty offer in the MLS information, however, we do see that it it’s listed in the Zillow Information. Will the Home Warranty offer be honored?

Check the link for the property on Zillow and sure enough, there’s a mention of a home warranty being included with the sale. And it was … back in 2010 when the home was purchased by my now sellers.

The house isn’t listed for sale on Zillow (which actually is odd since I generally syndicate there); that aside, the information that has been sitting there for the past 19 months is from a dated listing.

Yet this is where the public – and apparently some agents who for some reason are looking at Zillow as more relevant than the actual contract written (where no home warranty was requested) – is looking for its real estate information.

Repeat after me and then tell your friends – Zillow is not a real estate listings portal.

Together, with feeling – Zillow is not a real estate listings portal.
