Ignorance is Bliss

avatarthumbnail.jpgMarket stats will come later today … but first, a somewhat brief interlude.

What you see below is the mugshot of one Captain Morgan, who first made his debut on the All Phoenix Real Estate blog about 18 months ago. His punim has not made it onto any marketing material, as he lacks Tobey’s inherent sex appeal, but that’s neither here not there.

bliss.JPG It has been my contention for quite some time that Morgan is not a particularly smart animal. Dumb as a post, or some variation of the theme, probably has crossed my lips on more than one occasion, most recently this morning around 5 a.m. when he decided it would be a great time to start baying (or, rooing as we call it) for no apparent reason.

Truth be told, it’s not so much that Morgan is unintelligent as it is that he’s unconcerned. And, quite frankly, many of us can learn a lesson from him these days.

Morgan doesn’t spend his time refreshing the Dow Jones average on the computer minute by minute to see where the 401k that won’t be tapped for another 20 years might stand. He doesn’t look at the raw inventory figures from the Phoenix real estate market and shudder at the thought of so many houses for sale.

His life is somewhat simpler. Gnaw on a bone. Hide the bone (once, under my 9-year-old’s pillow. Not the best choice for a raw meat-covered bone.) Find the bone and gnaw on it some more.

Every person’s arrival is greeted like the astronauts splashing down in the Pacific. Each day is a brand new day, with no thought to the past and no concern for the future.

Granted, it’s not a thoroughly realistic perspective for those of us with children and homes and mortgages and car payments and the like. But there are some aspects of it, specifically the idea of not buying into the hysteria in good times or bad and every now again rooing at the top of your lungs just for the sheer sound of it, that aren’t so bad.

No, Morgan’s not the stupid one at all. I think he has more of it figured out than the rest of us. Now, if only he had thumbs so he could Twitt-roo at people.
