Saturday Afternoon Surfing

Here are a few of the things occupying me this Saturday afternoon between this morning’s showings in Ventana Lakes and this afternoon’s Saints-Cardinals NFC playoff game.

For the past year or so, one of the debates in the real estate world is whether bigger is better – is there an advantage to working for a boutique real estate brokerage versus one of the big boys. My answer always has been that it depends whether the mega-brokerage is working for or against you.

One of the reasons I went to RE/MAX is leads – that’s you when you register on RE/ – are sent directly to the agents without the broker getting his hands in our pocket, which in turn gives me the financial freedom to provide better service.

And let’s face it – is the 800-pound gorilla in the room among the big boys’ sites.  It’s also interesting to note that RE/MAX’s site is holding its own against Zillow, except RE/MAX has all the listings. If you are in the mood to be hypnotized by moving dots, you can see the various real estate searches going on at any point in time on on this interactive map.

Speaking of fun with maps, I finally took the plunge and signed up for, which allows me to check in from various places throughout the day. So if you’re ever in the mood for a real estate version of Where’s Waldo, there you go. The updates appear on my ever-thrilling Facebook profile.

And also speaking of Facebook, I’ve added a redesign of my real estate page to my list of things to do. I’m not updating enough there and it’s not reaching the audience I want, but that will change in time.

And with that, kickoff is only an hour away … enjoy the rest of your Saturday, however you happen to choose to spend it.
