Last night, the flying saucer-esque University of Phoenix stadium in Glendale was brilliantly illuminated with waving red lights and a pair of logos letting those driving down Loop 101 know that tonight’s Arizona Cardinals opener will be something special – Sunday Night Football is here.
As I write this, of course, the tailgates likely already are underway in the greenspace on the stadium’s west side and, probably, more than a few photos will be taken in front of the statue of Pat Tillman on this, the 15th anniversary of 9/11.
For those making their first trek to the stadium, though, get there early – it’s worth taking a lap of the stadium just to enjoy the atmosphere. Bring your clear bags for your belongings and leave your e-cigarettes and vape thingamajigs at home. And if you want to eat anywhere in the vicinity of the stadium and the Westgate City Center, you’ll want to be leaving your house about an hour ago.
Oh, and wear red. Lots of red.
